You are invited to appreciate the 182 valuable artworks from Dr. Chalermchai Kositpipat, the national artist of Thailand, which are from his cherished private collection and have never been given to anyone before, but Mandy Nok hotel is the first and only hotel who hold the right to display these remarkable artworks. These are heritage to Nakhon Sri Thammarat province including paintings and sculptures and each rooms are decorated with different Dr. Chalermchai Kositpipat artworks.

“Mandy Nok hotel is the first and only hotel in Thailand where every room in the hotel are decorated by Dr. Chalermchai Kositpipat, the national artist of Thailand, artworks.” There are Dr. Chalermchai Kositpipat artworks exhibited in every hallway in other part of the hotel, allowing visitors to leisurely enjoy the art and gallery style atmosphere. Not just the painting, visitors can also enjoy different art medium including sacred sculptures and many local southerner art and crafts in every corner of the hotel.

Especially the central hall, dominates by window display of precious sculptures including;

  • Phra Buddha PratanYosbaramee is a worshipped Buddha with 9 inches’ cross-section, 19.5 inches tall with base and made from bronze. Only 355 pieces were produced while 190 pieces were bestowed to police stations and 165 pieces were open to the public adoption, and 30 pieces of Artist’s Proof (A.P.) were specially produced in year 2009 to raise money for Provincial Police Region 5 as a donation. Both from original batch and special private batch (A.P.) are displayed at Mandy Nok hotel.
  • Phra Buddha PratanKwamsuk is a worshipped Buddha with 9 inches’ cross-section, 16 inches tall with base and made from bronze. This is the first worshipped Buddha, only 99 pieces were produced and 19 pieces from the special batch produced in year 2008 are selected to be A.P private collection, particularly for collectors of Dr. Chalermchai Kositpipat’s artwork. Both from original batch and special private batch (A.P.) are displayed at Mandy Nok hotel.
  • Virtue, concentration, wisdom Sculpture (2010) in bronze size 74 x 47 x 47 cm
  • Aphipanya Mahasetthee (Great Wisdom Billionaire) Sculpture (2007) in bronze size 85 x 50 x 50 cm
  • Ganesh Sculpture in bronze (Green) with 14 inches’ cross-section, 26 inches wide, 31 inches tall
  • Ganesh Sculpture in bronze (Brown) with 14 inches’ cross-section, 26 inches wide, 31 inches tall
  • DhepPhuploddhukmeesuk (Suffering-free God) Sculpture (2007) in bronze size 85 x 40 x 33 cm

These sculptures are kept in window display exhibit at the lobby of Mandy Nok hotel. The sophisticated artworks from Dr. Chalermchai Kositpipat are priceless giving visitor opportunity to appreciate these rare artworks.

Moreover, Mandy Nok hotel also own other artworks from local artists from Nakhon Sri Thammarat including oil painting by Ajarn Nab Tichinpong, whose work is culturally outstanding and he is a four-reigns artist of Thailand.

There are 6 oil painting by Ajarn Nab Tichinpong being exhibited in Mandy Nok hotel with the art and culture of Nakhon Sri Thammarat province motif including;

Painting No. 1 is displayed at elevator hall on the second floor of the hotel, is a picture of lotus paying respect to Buddha’s relics, completed on August 12th, 2015.
Painting No. 2 is displayed at elevator hall on the third floor of the hotel, is a picture of Bodhgaya replicated at gradient field or Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park 84, completed on October 1st, 2015.
Painting No. 3 is displayed at elevator hall on the fourth floor of the hotel, is a picture of princess Manorah, completed on January 13th, 2016.
Painting No. 4 is displayed at elevator hall on the fifth floor of the hotel, is a picture of fighting bull, completed on November 26th, 2015.
Painting No. 5 is displayed at elevator hall on the sixth floor of the hotel, is a picture of peacock, completed on November 26th, 2015.
Painting No. 6 is a portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej working with the villagers while he is leaning on Jeep car, completed on March 26th, 2016.

FESTIVAL OF THE TENTH LUNAR MONTH

Festival of the tenth lunar month is a religious tradition of Nakhon Sri Thammarat which was influenced from a mix of Brahmanism’s and later Buddhism’s belief. The aim is to offer merit to spirits of ancestors and deceased family members whom are being released from hell where they were incarcerated due to the karma they created when they were still alive. Every waning day of the first lunar of tenth month, the spirits are released to human world allowing them to come asking the family and relatives for merit. From those who are prepared to offer merit to the spirits as a sign of gratitude to the deceased. After that, the spirits will go back to hell on the waning day of the 15th lunar of tenth month.

During the ritual period of traditional of the tenth lunar month from the first waning day to fifteenth waning day of the tenth month every year, many Southerners often choose to make merit on the 13th to the 15th and the most of the time the traditional festival corresponds to September/October.

Mandy Nok hotel is displaying the organization of “Marb” (local southern language” which is five desserts (some say six) that each have their own meaning such as; Kanom Pong is a symbol for a raft for the deceased to use as a transportation across the deep ocean, Kanom La is a symbol for clothing, Kanom Kong or Kanom Kai-pla is a symbol for jewelry, Kanom Dee-sum is a symbol for disposable cowrie money, Kanom-Ba is a symbol for round fruit (use for playing) and in the case of six desserts, Kanom La-loy-mun is added which is a symbol for mattress and pillow. All of these are for our guests to experience the Nakhon Sri Thammarat’s culture and tradition intimately.
